I am attempting to compile here a listing of liturgical or otherwise religious compositions created during, because of, and to minister to people journeying through the COVID-19 crisis. If you know of others that I have not yet included here, please contact me.
Three of my own:
The One Who Watches O’er us – To the tune PASSION CHORALE and an original text by me, reminding all that God is always with us through trials, illnesses, and death, and is our hope and strength. Visit the link for video, lead sheet, video, etc.
We Will Rise – A new text, with a new tune from Shannon Cerneka and me, this piece reminds us that Easter always follows Good Friday, and that we can share in Christ’s resurrection and new life, filled with the Spirit and embraced by the love of God. Visit the link for video, lead sheet, video, etc.
Welcome Home – Looking toward the day of a more full, gathered worship experience, a piece easily learned by way nuanced repetitions and judicious sequences. Full score here, lead sheet or instrument part available by request.
Music from others:
I Am Not Alone – By Adam Tice and Bex Gaunt, reminding us that though physically distant, we are united in prayer and by the spirit. (Lots of videos of this from various folks on Facebook these days, including one from Shannon, me, and Kate Basi.) Here’s a Google Drive link to the score.
Christ Still Rises – New words and music by David Bjorlin and Benjamin Brody, focusing on the enduring promise of the resurrection, independent of our current circumstances and sufferings, and the promises which that event offer us in every time and space. Here’s a Google Drive link to the score.
Shelter Me – By Michael Joncas, a prayer song offering both lament and certitude that God will shepherd us through this present moment with warmth and security. Here’s a Google Drive link to the score, a reprint box, and a statement by the composer.
This Easter Celebration – By Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, from her website: “This new hymn is a prayer to be used in Easter 2020 worship services, while most churches are closed and people are remaining in their homes because of the pandemic.” To the tune AURELIA. Carolyn also has several other recently written texts available at her website: http://www.carolynshymns.com

With God, Life Never Dies – By Francis Patrick O’Brien, a piece with a moving text based on the extraordinary Urbi et Orbi blessing given by Pope Francis recently: Christ is by our side. Here’s a Google Drive link to the score.

Servants of your Peace is from Eprhem Feeley with a text by James Quinn SJ based on the prayer of St. Francis.
