A few weeks ago, I posted an original hymn text created during the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, and included this introduction to it.

For this generation, the present situation is unprecedented. Uncertainty, fear, and anxiety become more prevalent, affliction and loss of lives touch more of us than ever, and unexpected and unwanted times of solitude begin to negatively affect us, created by God to live in community and communion.

I offer this sung prayer for all of us who, while perhaps feeling more alone than ever, are also with certainly not alone: though separated from others to preserve our health, we are joined together — and joined by — our loving God, who is constant and who is with us at all times, in all challenges and all times of trial.

While these words still ring true, a new text – and tune – was needed as we approach Easter and spend the next several weeks celebrating the resurrection and Christ alive among us. It is Christ who is our hope, our companion, our friend, and our salvation during both good times and bad, and especially through any times of trial.

So, Shannon and I wrote “We Will Rise” for this present moment of life, of Church, of community. Again, this piece is freely available to use as anyone believes it may meet a need. Score, worship aid, lyric video, and audio are all posted below. Easter blessings, everyone.
